About Us
We are a learning community that strengthens children, families, and neighborhoods through shared learning experiences and community‑centered education.

KLA's Mission
Kindred Learning Adventures is a culturally-affirming homeschool community dedicated to supporting Black, Brown, and other marginalized homeschooling families and their allies. We aim to increase access to enriching, high-quality educational resources while providing a safe and responsive space for building healthy friendships and fostering strong community connection.

KLA's Values
We are a Culturally-Conscious Community:
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is at the heart of the space we hold. We strive to provide an educational experience that celebrates our unique cultural narratives and perspectives

We are a Family-Centered Community:
We encourage "family-style" learning and curate community-based learning opportunities that foster collaboration and curiosity. In turn, creating a supportive network where families can exchange ideas, resources, and experiences.

We Encourage Ingenuity and Curiosity:
We believe in nurturing a spirit of innovation and wonder within our learners. By promoting curiosity, we inspire them to ask questions, explore new ideas, and approach problems with creativity.

Our Community = Our Classroom
Kindred Learning Adventures is the ideal educational resource for homeschooling families who want to break away from the dining room table homeschool lessons and dive into a vibrant world of learning.
At Kindred Learning Adventures, we are dedicated to bringing "community schooling" to the homeschool experience. We create safe, welcoming, and culturally-affirming spaces where homeschool learners can thrive. Here, they connect with other homeschoolers, feeling seen, heard, valued, and respected every step of the way.
Join us in making homeschooling a joyful and enriching journey for every family!
Kindred Learning Adventures is dedicated to:
-
Creating space for our children to take up space. Let them run, jump, climb, and ask questions!

-
Offering an assortment of opportunities for families and learners to learn with the community.

-
Encouraging learners to enthusiastically express their existing knowledge and skills.

-
Providing thought-provoking opportunities for learners to learn and try new things.

-
Building a community of learners who value kindness, collaboration, and friendship.

Our goal is to build a strong collective of homeschooling families who cherish warm-hearted social interactions, hands-on learning, and the joy of loving our planet and nurturing our community. Our homeschool community makes space for eco-consciousness and encourage self-expression in every learner. We aspire to connect with like-minded families, collaborating to create a vibrant community of friends and future leaders.
Our Liberated Learning Ecosystem
Community Learning Adventures
Our Community Learning Adventures are the heartbeat of KLA, powered by parents, partnerships, and public spaces. Through local organizations, community educators, museums, parks, farms, libraries, and family leadership, learners experience hands-on education rooted in real-world connection.
Collaborative Learning
At KLA, learning happens with one another, not just beside one another. Through shared experiences, hands-on projects, discussion, and exploration, learners collaborate across age groups and interests while practicing teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and community-minded leadership.
Parent-Led Learning Cooperative
KLA grows through the gifts, skills, and leadership of homeschooling families. Through parent-led workshops, shared planning, collaborative teaching, and community support, families help shape meaningful learning experiences together.
Community Service Projects
KLA’s Community Service Projects give families meaningful ways to show up, give back, and practice care in action. Through hands-on service, local partnerships, environmental stewardship, and community-led efforts, learners build responsibility, compassion, and a deeper connection to the places and people around them.
Family Support Networks
KLA’s Family Support Network is where connection deepens beyond the adventure day. Rooted in parent leadership, shared resources, and community care, this offering creates space for families to ask questions, build relationships, exchange support, and feel less alone in the homeschool journey.
Creating Lasting Connections
KLA is built on relationships that grow beyond a single adventure. Through shared experiences, family participation, and intentional community care, we create space for homeschool families to build real friendships, feel supported, and stay connected throughout the journey.

We Celebrate and Welcome Neurodiversity!
Warm Greetings from the Founder
From My Heart to Our Community,
Peace, my name is Deanna and I am grateful you stopped by to receive this greeting. I’m a wife, homeschooling mama, and founder of Kindred Learning Adventures. But encompassed in all of those titles, is someone who deeply believes that learning is meant to be lived.

When my family began our homeschooling journey, I quickly realized something important. While learning at home can be beautiful and meaningful, children thrive when they are connected to something larger than the microcosm of their home. They flourish when they explore the world around them, meet inspiring people, and learn alongside others who value community and share a love of learning.

Kindred Learning Adventures was created to be that space.

What began as a small gathering of families looking for meaningful, hands-on experiences has grown into a vibrant community where learners explore science, art, culture, entrepreneurship, and the natural world together. At KLA, we believe the community itself can be a classroom. Farms, museums, libraries, local businesses, parks, and creative studios all become spaces where learning comes alive.

Our adventures are designed to be engaging, collaborative, and rooted in real-world experiences. Children ask questions, build things, explore nature, solve problems, and connect ideas across disciplines. Families build friendships, support one another, and discover that homeschooling doesn’t have to be a solitary path.

As a Virginia Master Naturalist and community learning advocate, I’m especially passionate about helping young people develop a relationship with the natural world and understand their role as stewards of their environment. Many of our programs bring learners outdoors, encouraging curiosity about ecosystems, wildlife, water, and the incredible systems that sustain life around us.

More than anything, KLA is about community. It is about creating a space where families feel welcomed, learners feel inspired, and education becomes something joyful and shared...and take up space.

My hope is that every child who participates in Kindred Learning Adventures walks away feeling curious, confident, and connected—to their community, to nature, and to their own potential.

Again, I am grateful for you being here and for being part of the journey.

Yours in Liberated Learning,

Deanna Sherman, Founder of Kindred Learning Adventures
