1. What is a culturally-affirming community?
​
At KLA, a culturally-affirming community means that we actively uplift and recognize the culturally related values within our community. It means we support the diverse cultural backgrounds and identities of our members through:
Acknowledgment and Understanding:
Recognizing and understanding the unique cultural backgrounds, traditions, and values of Black and Brown people.
Active Engagement:
Engaging actively with cultural practices, celebrations, and discussions that highlight and honor the richness of Black and Brown cultures.
Promoting Equity:
Striving for social justice and equity by addressing systemic issues and disparities that affect Black and Brown communities.
Empowerment:
Empowering individuals to embrace and express their cultural identities with pride and confidence.

2. I am not Black or Brown, can we still join KLA?
​
Absolutely! KLA welcomes allies and homeschool learners who align with our values and uplift our mission to create a culturally-affirming community for Black and Brown homeschool learners and their families.

3. Does KLA welcome neurodivergent learners?
​
Sure do! KLA welcomes exceptional learners regardless of their abilities. We trust that parents seek out social and educational opportunities that are just right for thier learner. Please send any questions regarding special needs or accommodations to kindredlearningadventures@gmail.com.

4. Is KLA a faith-based homeschool community?
​
Our homeschool community is secular. We warmly welcome families from all walks of faith and respect and value the diverse beliefs within our community.

5. I only have a toddler/preschooler learner. Can we join KLA?
​
At this time, KLA only serves K-6 homeschool learners. Younger siblings are welcome to join us for learning adventures when appropriate.
​
6. I am not legally homeschooling, can we still join KLA?
​
At this time, members must be legally declared as a homeschooler in their state of residence.
​
7. When does KLA meet?
​
Learning adventures will be held on Wednesdays. Special field trips and events may take place other days of the week.
​
8. Where is Kindred Learning Adventures located?
Our homeschool community centralizes its resources in Woodbridge, Va. However, our learning adventures extend far beyond, as we explore and engage with the diverse and rich educational opportunities throughout the entire DMV area and surrounding areas.

To maintain a safe and secure learning environment, KLA does not post the exact locations of any events or learning adventures on this website. Our calendar of events, including addresses, is shared on our private members-only community app.

Membership​
​
1. What is the purpose of the Kindred Learning Adventure membership?
​
To maintain a safe and secure learning experience, membership is required for all registrants.
Membership also allows us to organize and plan learning adventures and events accordingly.
​
2. How do I become a member?
​
To become a member, complete 4 steps to become KLA member:

Complete and submit a KLA interest form

Attend a virtual info session

Apply for a KLA membership
-
Once application is accepted and approved--pay membership related dues.
Once your application is approved, you will receive a welcome email with all the information you need to get started.

3. What are the benefits of membership?
​
Members enjoy a variety of benefits, including:

Ability to register and attend learning adventures

Access to our private community BAND app to streamline communication

Invitations to seasonal and educational events and field trips

Consistent opportunities to socialize and build community ​

4. What is the cost of membership?​
​
We are Family! members will pay:

Annual $55 administration/registration fee

Monthly $55 per learner ($5 sibling discount)

One time $25 material fee

Friends of KLA membership will pay:

​Annual $55 administration/registration fee

$16 initial learning adventure payment

All learning adventures will cost $16 per learner​

5. Can I cancel my membership?
​
Yes, you cancel your membership. However, membership fees are non-refundable.
​​​
6. Can I downgrade or upgrade my membership level?
​
Absolutely! If you wish to upgrade your membership level, you can do so at any time by logging into your account and selecting the upgrade option. The additional cost will be prorated based on the time remaining in your current membership period.​

If downgrading, we would be sad to see you change your commitment. We are Family! members can downgrade their membership with a written notice to kindredlearningadventures@gmail.com, however, members are expected to pay for following month of learning adventures before the downgrade can take place.​
